An aggressive pit bull stranded a group of hikers on the Waihee Ridge Trail above Wailuku on Sunday morning, until emergency crews were able to help them down, Maui police said in a news release.

Police, medics and animal control personnel responded to a call on the trail at about 9:09 a.m.

Medics treated a female hiker for a dog bite and the hikers were escorted down the trail without further incident.

Animal Control officers captured the pit bull. Police said it’s not known who owns the dog.
