Police: Suspects broke into Kona hotel room

Two Big Island homeless men appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges of breaking into at a Kailua-Kona resort, theft and other offenses.

Sloan Kalau Deleon, 20, is charged with contempt of court, burglary, second-degree theft, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $11,000.

Leo Isamu Corpuz is charged with burglary, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, six counts of theft, two counts of theft/forgery of a credit card, eight counts of unauthorized possession of personal information, fraudulent use of a motor vehicle license plate and driving without a license. His bail was set at $143,000.  The car’s license plate had been removed and replaced with a stolen license plate.

Kona police said a California visitor reported that his room at a resort off Alii Drive near Wailua Road had been broken into Saturday and items, including his rental car key, had been taken. The rental car was missing from the parking lot.

Officers arrested Deleon on Saturday and caught Corpuz on Sunday with the stolen car and mail belonging to other people, police said.
