MILWAUKEE >> The Cardinals, tied for last in the major leagues in home runs, had not hit three homers in a game this season, much less four.

Former University of  Hawaii player Kolten Wong blasted his fourth homer in six games to help the Cardinals beat the Brewers 7-6.

Wong, Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta popped three off Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo to help erase a 6-0 lead and Matt Holliday ripped his sixth home of the season off Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie and give the Cardinals the victory.

The Cardinals’ bullpen worked six scoreless innings in relief of Joe Kelly and the Cardinals shaved the Brewers’ lead to one in the National League Central Division as they handed the Brewers their sixth straight loss and 10th in 11 games.

Wong, a rookie second baseman who had to go on the Cardinals disabled list last month when he had trouble finishing his swing after he suffered a bruise to his left shoulder, isn’t having much trouble following through now.

Wong’s long shot to right, his fifth home run of the season, cut the Brewers’ lead to 6-3 in the sixth inning.

Before the inning was over, the Cardinals had erased all of a six-run Milwaukee lead built after two innings and had tied the Brewers at 6-6.

A few batters after Wong’s homer, Jhonny Peralta clubbed his team-high 14th home run of the season and this two-run blow chased Yovani Gallardo, one of the Cardinals’ favorite punching bags. Gallardo still is 1-11 against the Cardinals after giving up three homers for the night.

Reliever Rob Wooten allowed singles to Allen Craig and Jon Jay and walked Tony Cruz before pinch hitter Oscar Taveras, facing lefthander Zach Duke, bounced into a forceout with a hard slide by Cruz disrupting second baseman Scooter Gennett enough that Gennett had no time to throw to first.

Matt Carpenter also walked before Wong, hitting for the second time in the inning, bounced into a forceout.
