A state sheriff's vehicle blocks the Miller Street entrance to the state Capitol parking garage after a suspicious package was found at the eternal flame across the street from the Capitol Friday morning.

Honolulu police briefly shut down Beretania Street between Punchbowl and Merchant Street Friday morning as police and deputy sheriffs investigates a suspicious package found at the Eternal Flame War Memorial, across from the State Capitol building.

Beretania Street was reopened around noon after being closed for about an hour.

The Miller Street entrance to the Capitol parking garage was closed, but no buildings were evacuated, the Department of Public Safety said.

Deputy sheriffs received the call about a suspicious package around 9:40 a.m.

The Sheriff K9 unit and the Honolulu Police Department bomb squad responded.
