The U.S. Coast Guard is preparing to partially close the harbors on Hawaii Island and Maui County on Wednesday night.

Harbors in Hilo and Kawaihae on Hawaii island and Kahului on Maui, as well as those on Lanai and Molokai will be closed for incoming traffic, though vessels in port may still leave.

The ports are likely to be fully closed tomorrow, according to Lt. Scott Carr, Coast Guard spokesman. Closure of the ports is dependent upon wind speeds in each of the harbors.

The Coast Guard hasn’t determined if it will close ports in Honolulu and Kauai.
