Paddleboarder found dead off Pearl Harbor identified as Mililani man

The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 63-year-old Mililani man whose body was retrieved from a channel leading into Pearl Harbor Wednesday afternoon as Dale Ishiara.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy Thursday to determine cause of death.

The Coast Guard said it received a report around 2:30 p.m. of a missing paddleboarder who had not returned to the recreation office at Hickam Air Force Base.

The Coast Guard helicopter searched the waters off Pearl Harbor and found the paddleboarder north of buoy one near the mouth of the Pearl Harbor channel. The body was retrieved by a Coast Guard boat crew, brought to Aloha Tower around 4:30 p.m. and taken away in an ambulance.

Police have classified the case as an unattended death.

The Navy said the man is not a servicemember and was last seen leaving Hickam Beach at 8:30 a.m.

The Navy’s harbor patrol assisted in the search for victim.
