LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 55-year-old Las Vegas convenience store clerk is facing attempted murder and other charges after police say he shot a man in the head as he ran from the store with a 24-pack of stolen beer.

Police said Monday that Mariano Tejeda-Zuniga was arrested after the shooting early Sunday at a 7-Eleven on Maryland Parkway near Vegas Valley Drive.

Friends drove the injured man to nearby Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, where police say he was treated for a gunshot that struck behind his ear and exited his face.

Police say the wounded man is in his early 20s.

Police reported confiscating a .45-caliber handgun and security video from the store.

Tejeda-Zuniga told investigators he wanted to fire a warning shot when the gun went off and the man fell.
