Honolulu firefighters battled a brush fire Friday above Umena Street in Makakilo.

Firefighters were staging near homes in Makakilo Sunday after a stubborn wildfire flared up again.

The fire started Aug. 22 after two 7-year-old boys played with a lighter.

Honolulu fire Capt. James Todd said about 10 companies were on scene Sunday after high winds whipped up the fire. No homes have been evacuated.

Firefighters have been returning to the area every day to try to put out the fire, which is burning in a steep forested area and has charred about 1,000 acres.

About 20 homes in the area of Umena Street were evacuated for three days after the fire first started.
