"Perry on the Left, Price on the Right: Thirty Years with the Odd Couple of Island Radio," by Larry Fleece (Watermark, $19.95): Hawaii’s most successful radio team, Michael W. Perry and Larry Price, get their due in this lighthearted biography, which traces the "odd couple’s" humble, almost accidental beginnings in radio to broadcasts with celebrities and coverage of major news events.

"From Portents Dark to Promises of Light II: Reflections on People, Politics and Places," by Estrella Besinga Sybinsky (Xulon Press, $11.99): In this collection of free-form, stream-of-consciousness poetry, Sybinsky discusses issues ranging from abortion to the death penalty, aging and politics. The Kailua resident is a former political science professor and dean at Windward Community College.

"Tropical Lies," by David Myles Robinson (Bluewater Press, $19.95): The gruesome murder of a high-profile investment counselor who was running a Ponzi scheme launches this fictional courtroom drama set in Honolulu. It’s a combination of "Perry Mason" and "Law & Order," with a criminal defense attorney as the focal point. The author is a former Hawaii Circuit Court judge.

"Being Local in Hawai‘i: ‘Talking Story’ with Julia of Wahiawa," by Keiko Matsui Higa (Aviva Publishing, $19.95): The author tells of her upbringing in Central Oahu as the nisei daughter in a plantation household and her rise to a career in political activism. Part memoir, part political tract, the book provides commentary on racism, social justice for Pacific Islanders and spirituality in the modern world, among many topics.

"Beyond Green Tea and Grapefruit," by Gail N. Harada (Bamboo Ridge Press, $18): This collection of poems and short stories by the prize-winning writer contains a touching memoir about her visit to the French battleground where her father fought with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Whether prose or poetry, Harada’s writing is spare, clean and direct.

"Blue Marlin Magic," by Steve Campbell (Wild River Press, $100): This is a combination glossy picture book and comprehensive primer on fishing for marlin, including their spawning habits and which lures to use to catch them. Hawaii photographer Doug Perrine contributed photos to the text by Campbell, a sport-fishing captain in Tonga.
