Honolulu Police Assistant Chief Cary Okimoto was promoted to Deputy Chief of Administrative Operations Thursday, replacing former Deputy Chief Dave Kajihiro, who retired this week.

Okimoto, a 30-year veteran, was named police officer of the year in 2010.

He also has headed District 6 in Waikiki.
