Firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire at the Waikamilo Business Center Tuesday night.

Fire investigators said that an unattended pot left on a stove caught fire at the Ono Pops kitchen at the Waikamilo Business Center, causing $45,000 damage to the business on Nov. 10.

The cause was ruled accidental on Thursday.

Fire sprinklers are credited with helping extinguish the fire and preventing more damage.

The fire broke out in the kitchen in suite 109 of the five-story commercial building at about 10:12 p.m. on Nov. 10.

Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the garage area of the building at 420 Waikamilo Road. Two sprinklers activated, helping firefighters extinguish the blaze by 10:55 p.m.

The fire was contained to the Ono Pops business and did not spread to other offices in the building.
