Eddie Vedder of the rock band Pearl Jam performs during the bands Lightning Bolt Tour at the Baltimore Arena on Oct. 27, 2013, in Baltimore.

RALEIGH, N.C. » Pearl Jam is canceling its concert in North Carolina later this month because of the state’s new law on LGBT rights.

In a statement issued today on the band’s website, Pearl Jam called the new law “a despicable piece of legislation that encourages discrimination against an entire group of American citizens.”

The statement says the band has communicated with local groups and will give them money to oppose the law.

Pearl Jam was scheduled to perform April 20 at PNC Arena in Raleigh.

An anti-discrimination ordinance approved in February in Charlotte that, among other things, would have allowed transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding to their gender identity led to a special legislative session. Legislators overturned the ordinance and blocked all cities and counties from passing similar anti-discrimination rules.

“noys have a penis, and girls have a vagina.” das why hard li’dat

  2. d_bullfighter says:

The “bathroom bill” prohibits transgenders from using bathrooms which correspond to their gender identity instead of their biological identity. So if this bill were not passed, a person could:
Be a sexual predator who need only state that he considers himself a woman but only use that as a pretext for getting into woman’s bathrooms. In my opinion, public safety overrides one’s “right” to use the bathroom of their choice.

    • Ronin006 says:

Straight people should have rights too. They should have a right to use a restroom corresponding to their biological sex without having to share it with some creep of the opposite sex because of how they feel about their sexual identity. How did this lunacy happen? Oh, wait. I know. the answer is liberalism.

    • choyd says:

Funny how you think gun laws won’t stop criminals but this law will stop criminals.

FYI, all this does is force people like Buck Angel to use a bathroom of a gender they do not look like at all. Google that person. Tell me why you think it’s a good idea to force Buck to use the women’s bathroom.

      • Ronin006 says:

Why? Two reasons. One is that Buck is a female. The other is that she will scared the crap out of males if she uses a male restroom.

        • choyd says:

Clearly you never bothered to Google Buck Angel did you?

Forcing Buck Angel to use the women’s bathroom wills care the crap out of every woman in women’s bathroom.

You are as lazy as you are ignorant.

        • choyd says:

Granted though, consider that Buck Angel is a burly, nearly bald, tattooed looking thug, I’d be a bit afraid of regardless of where I had an encounter with Buck.

But then again, I actually bothered to do my research. You are so incredibly lazy you cannot even be bothered to do a simple image search.

        • Ronin006 says:

Buck Angel should use female restrooms. There no doubt are some masculine looking females, but decorating their bodies with tattoos, building up muscles with steroids or weight lifting, or undergoing surgery to look like men does not make them males. The sight of Buck Angel in a male restroom is enough to scare the crap out of men, even those with severe constipation. Back in the old days, people like Buck Angel could be seen for a fee in a circus or carnival freak show. Unfortunately, you can see them for free today on any street (or restroom) in America.

        • choyd says:

Again, you clearly did not Google Buck Angel.

Buck for all intensive purposes looks like a man.

And yet now you don’t have a problem with him scaring women? Do you even bother to put any effort at all into anything you say? Your original concern was him scaring men. But now scaring women is okay? How does that make any logical sense?

You do realize you’ve got to the men’s bathroom with trans people no? Was there any issue?

Seriously, you Fascist Religious Extremists are what’s wrong with society.

        • choyd says:

You wonder why I think so lowly of you?

          This is why.

Prior to this law, Buck Angel could walk into the men’s bathroom. Go to a stall, pee/poop and go on with the rest of the day. No one would notice, no one would care.

Now, this law requires Buck Angel to use the women’s bathroom, scare lots of women, possibly get attacked with pepper spray/mace and have the cops called all because of Fascists who want to install cops to check people’s genitals on a threat that the local police chief flat out stated doesn’t exist.

I want to see North Carolina get sued for millions of dollars because of this completely asinine law and for North Carolina voters to stop voting for your brand of religious fascists.

The prior system, where the state had FEWER LAWS worked better, had less state intervention and resulted in less problems. You are advocating for MORE government, MORE laws, and MORE taxpayer waste.

You and others like you are the problem.

        • Ronin006 says:

Choyd, the situation in which Buck Angel finds herself was self-inflicted. She was not a bad looking female before she decided to transform her appearance to that of a man. I must say she did a very good job as she now looks manlier than most men. Nevertheless, she is still a female and should use female restrooms. There are many non-LGBT women who look as masculine as most men. Do we now forced them to use male restrooms based on how they look? Your defense of Buck Angel suggest that we should.

        • choyd says:

Show me a non-trans gender woman who looks even remotely as masculine as Buck.

Funny how you are now completely abandoning your “scare” people argument.

The old system worked. Less Laws. Less Government. No problems as stated by the local police chief. Effective.

You want more government for no reason other than to placate your fascist beliefs.

        • choyd says:

This just goes to show that so many “small government republicans” don’t believe anything they say.

Creating more government to stop a problem that doesn’t exist.

Didn’t you criticize Democrats for that ronin?

What a raging hypocrite you are.

      • d_bullfighter says:

Unfortunately choyd your sympathies as well as your blame are sorely misplaced. The truth is that the radical elements of the transgender community have no one else to blame except themselves. This all started when some transgenders began declaring that they have the absolute “right” to go into the public restroom of their choice – the gender that they identify with. In essence they claim that one could physically appear as a man but go into a womman’s restroom and vice-versa. To refuse them this so called “right” amounts to bigotry and discrimination. Hogwash.

In their attempt to make the public restrooms their latest battleground to promote acceptance of their agenda they failed to anticipate the public backlash. If they had been more discreet and used common-sense courtesy toward others, this law would not have come about. I have no problem whatsoever with Buck using the men’s restroom because he LOOKS LIKE A MAN. He looks the part on the outside and I frankly don’t care what kind of equipment he has underneath his clothes. And I agree that if Buck were to go into a woman’s restroom, a fair number of them would most likely feel threatened or uncomfortable presumably including Buck himself.

So in essence poor Buck got caught in the cross-fire because others in the transgender community who “don’t look the part” nevertheless insisted that they had the right to enter the restroom of their choice simply because they identified with that gender. In doing so, common courtesy for others was flushed down the toilet. So to use your rhetoric and blame the “religious fascists” has no basis in fact. But if you insist on assigning blame, I suggest you blame the humanist fascists as they initiated a law that need not have been created were it not for their own selfishness.

        • choyd says:

You don’t seem to get that the local police chief stated there is no problem. No problems at all. So you can take your “radical” argument and shove it. Unless you want to start arguing that the POLICE are lying.

NC made a law PURELY to placate religious fascists who seek to expand government into every aspect of our lives.

The old system with fewer laws, less government and more liberty didn’t have a problem as STATED by the POLICE.

So why would did they enact a law to stop crimes that weren’t happening right before an election where the sponsors and the governor badly needed to rile up religious voters to stay in power?

I get that you, like the rest of the Republicans, HATE LIBERTARIANS. But for once, could you at least PRETEND to believe in the small government you say you do?

And you are again flat out wrong. This is purely the religious fascists’s fault.

        • d_bullfighter says:

choyd – instead of shoving it, I’ll instead flush your argument down the toilet. I actually agree with you that these laws need not have been passed to begin with. Since you continue to believe “religious fascists” caused this, why don’t you ask the Charlotte Mayor why they needed to pass their law in the first place? If someone like Buck went into the men’s restroom, no one would make a big deal of it because he looks like a man irrespective of what plumbing he has underneath. No one would notice or care and hence no problem. The problem is the Charlotte Mayor opened a Pandora’s box when the law she signed allowed equal access to public restrooms based on “gender identity.”

What was the basis for passing the law in the first place. Was there discrimination going on in Charlotte restrooms? I have no problem with equal access for all to places of public accommodation but I draw the line at bathrooms. The Mayor and City Council could have passed a better bill making an exception for public restrooms. Or, they could have included language in the law that specified that someone of the opposite sex should at least outwardly “physically” look like that sex before they enter the restroom. That would have allowed for common sense decency and respect for all. Instead they opted for “identity” instead – which is precisely the loophole in the law in terms of restroom use. And by the same token, the bill that was passed by the Governor should have contained wording that allowed transgenders to use restrooms that corresponds with their physical appearance – not their birth certificate. If both the local and State governments had worded their laws more carefully, all persons rights would have been respected.

        • choyd says:

d_bullfighter, the law’s bathroom issue is actually the small portion of it. The law actually forbids counties and cities from adding more protected classes. The bathroom bit was just a bone thrown to religious fascists to ensure their support of certain politicians right before an election season. Again, the police chief flat out stated there is no actual problem. But religious fascists like Ronin and want to expand government into every aspect of our lives to control us like the Iranians and Saudis control their people. There is a reason why Libertarians are abandoning the GOP in legions. There is no liberty to be found in the hands of the Religious Fascists.

        • d_bullfighter says:

choyd I realize that restroom accommodation is a small portion of the law but as you and I know it is the most controversial aspect of the law hence our discussion. If it were not for the public restroom aspect I would have no problem with Charlotte’s law. The facts are straightforward – it was “humanist fascists” which started this whole fiasco. The fact is these bunch of fascists could have worded their local law to allow for the stipulation that transgenders must at least appear to look like the gender that corresponds to the bathroom they enter. That would have been a simple fix which would have engendered mutual respect and accommodation for all classes of citizens. Instead for whatever reason they chose not to exercise this option and instead and went for the “scorched earth” route which makes no sense at all.

Your predilection for quoting the police chief is interesting. He states that there is no problem but that is quite irrelevant. The germane point is, can he or anyone else guarantee that there will be no problems in the future. In fact, I would suggest that Charlotte’s passing of their law would have made it more dangerous for woman and especially young children to enter public restrooms by themselves. My children are no longer young but if they were – under that kind of law – I would certainly not let them enter a restroom alone even if they were old enough to do so. If someone who appeared to be of the opposite sex were in the bathroom, I would now have to explain to my young child why that person is allowed in there. And even if I had a daughter in her teens, she would freak at having a man in the bathroom. Worse case scenario is that a sexual predator could take advantage of the newly passed law to carry out his/her deviant behavior. It is well known that the modus operandi of sexual predators is to take advantage of every opportunity to execute their deviant desires. As a parent, I would not be willing to take that chance? Would you? The Charlotte law in effect, put a burden on parents with children. No sensible parent who cares about the safety and welfare of eir child would entrust the safety of their child to urThe fact is that law was passed by humanist fascists. There is no liberty to be found in the hands of the humanist fascists.

All people have rights. It’s just a matter of having to take the time to flex those rights. The Queer community is hitting the streets and marketing their cause. Straight people need to get of the couch and do the same.

Straight people need to boycott Pearl Jam and show them what discrimination really feels like.

    • peanutgallery says:

Nobody cares about Pearl Jam any more.

      • choyd says:

Is that why their 2016 world tour is sold out? No one cares right?

Do you even try at anything you do or do you simply half *** everything in life?

      • Winston says:

Au contraire. There are legions of losers still skulking in parental basements who’s gladly shell out Mom’s money for a ticket.

        • choyd says:

          Well, you would know right?

        • choyd says:

Also, technically “legions of losers” is by definition not “nobody.”

There are a number of free community colleges here in the islands you can audit. As you clearly dropped out of the DOE and never got your GED, you may want to reconsider your hatred for education.

  4. NahokuIIwebguy says:

So what. If I found one of those cross dressing freaks in the bathroom with my young daughter, I’d beat them senseless. Good for NC for trying to show some common sense…..something the Libtards have less of by the hour.

    • choyd says:

Google Buck Angel. Buck is now legally required to use the women’s bathroom.

You can thank the Fascist Religious Extremists for that.

    • Mr Mililani says:

A lot of people are probably wondering why “Nahokull” keeps going into the woman’s bathroom with is young daughter. Does he bring a hidden camera? Who is the pervert?

      • choyd says:

Isn’t it amusing how the prior system, which had fewer laws, no taxpayer lawsuits, and less government worked just fine but now we have religious fascists who want more government and are creating problems where the police chief said there were none before?

Ronin, Winston and NahokuIIwebguy don’t believe in small government. They believe in Religious Fascism.
