Bicyclist hit on Nimitz Highway listed in critical condition

Honolulu police closed Ewa-bound lanes of Nimitz Highway and rerouted traffic to the H-1 freeway viaduct after a sports utility vehicle hit a bicyclist crossing the highway Wednesday night.
A 2016 Nissan Armada sports utility vehicle hit a bicyclist crossing Nimitz Highway, critically injuring a woman, police said.
The accident happened at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Police closed all Ewa-bound lanes of Nimitz Highway and redirected traffic to the H-1 freeway viaduct while Traffic Division officers investigated the crash scene.
The highway reopened by 10:50 p.m.
Police said paramedics initially took the 52-year-old woman to the hospital in serious condition, but her condition worsened to critical.
Police said the woman was apparently homeless.
The Armada was driven by a 37-year-old Arizona man.

observation! – – bicyclist? viaduct on-ramp? there seems to be an unnatural and illogical relationship here for any normal person with any sense. no amount of indignation or “logic” will suffice to rationalize that fact.
conclusion! – – aaaah – natural attrition at its finest?
A lot of homeless people riding stolen bicycles in that area at night.
Early morning as well, all without lights and few obeying traffic laws, but I also see a lot of the same behavior on my daily drive into town from Laie, along Kamehameha Hwy.
There are all kinds of unexpected hazards. We need to all slow down and drive defensively.
What? slow to 3 Miles per hour!
Yes we all need to slow down, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Just this morning, I was following a motorcycle on Beretania. Not once, but twice, in a span of about six blocks, the motorcyclist had to slam his brakes because two different sports cars, aggressively changed lanes cutting the motorcyclist off. Fortunately the motorcyclist was driving in a defensive manner. I’m assuming the car drivers didn’t see the motorcyclist since they were weaving back and forth between lanes trying to get ahead of everyone else.
Or take the Rail right.
Speaking of Bicycles – Yesterday on King St. While getting off “The Bus” near Pensacola a MS. bicycle rider, riding on the SIDEWALK rides thru Exited Bus riders. WHY wasn’t She off the sidewalk and using the “Bike Track” ? What the Hay did the Bike Track get Made for if the bike riders don’t GET OFF the sidewalk and use it?
Because the bike track is extremely dangerous with cars making left turns from King street and from driveways. People did not use the sidewalk before the bike track because the parking lane on the left was much safer.
so its safer to plow through pedestrians instead.
Oh Really ? – SAFER for WHO? She almost Knocked me Down!
If I was riding a bike I would rather hit a pedestrian than get hit by a car.
Safer for the bicyclist. Do you really think your safety has a higher priority than his safety?

It must be against the law to ride a bike on the freeway!
