Asing, Florence still alive in Tahiti

Hawaii surfers Keanu Asing and John John Florence could not win their Round 4 heats at the Billabong Pro Tahiti on Monday and now must win head-to-head matchups to advance to the quarterfinals.

Asing faces veteran Kelly Slater, while Florence goes against Australian Joel Parkinson today, weather permitting at Teahupo’o, Tahiti.

Asing posted wave scores of 5.33 and 6.30 to finish third in his three-man heat, while Florence submitted only a 1.83 and 1.13 at the bottom of his heat.
