Ex-kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio convicted in federal fraud trial
Former champion kickboxer Dennis Alexio was convicted of using “false and fictitious financial instruments” to obtain property from unsuspecting victims.
A federal jury today found Alexio guilty of all 18 counts contained in the indictment following a five-day trial.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 20, 2017 before Chief U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright.
U.S. Attorney Florence Nakakuni said Alexio obtained $185,000 of silver coins and gold bars by fraud and theft from APMEX, an internet metals company based in Oklahoma City. Alexio also used fraudulent means to obtain $16,000 in currency from Dartmouth Capital, an internet currency exchange company based in Boston.
Alexio faces a maximum of five years in prison for each of the 18 counts. A previous federal jury trial in January 2016 resulted in Alexio’s conviction on all 28 counts of defrauding the Internal Revenue Service of more than $700,000 in illegally obtained tax refunds. He is awaiting sentencing for those charges as well.
The Internal Revenue Service led the investigation, which resulted in both sets of convictions. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Marshall Silverberg and Margaret Nammar.

Alexio lost to the Feds by K.O. in the first round, then gets K.O’d again in the return match. Time to hang it up and retire from the ring to go to the big house.
I hope they took his passport and put him on the no fly list cause if he ever got the chance he would skip sentencing and fly to some foreign country with no extradition with the US. Many years ago he used to drive around Honolulu in a car with no valid license plates except the plate said ‘Kingdom of Israel’.
Easy! People commenting here don’t even know Dennis! Treating him like some kind of serial killer or rapist lol! Met him during my diving tournament days and he, Dennis Alexio, was a pretty cool guy! Always cordial , humble, plenty of Aloha and happy to be around the kids, who were his biggest fans
Never heard of him. He sounds like a cordial humble thief.
Exactly my point! “Never heard of him.” If you did? You would be opining here? something different.
……… Dennis loved Diving and he was pretty good at it! He was good enough to compete with the Best divers around the State!
Not only did he dive, but as a Diving Tournament faculty,he used to help out organizing the events. This guy was kind and very generous with his time and was pure energy! When the community heard that he would be attending the tournament, people would just flock around him! They loved being around Dennis. Yep! I don’t think he realizes how much he gave to the community of the North Shore, but he gave a lot!
In my mind Dennis Alexio will always remain on of Hawaii’s Greatest Fighters! Just remember we are all Human Beings, & will at times? We tend to make Mistakes. IMUA
Wow. You met the convicted thief Dennis Alexio. He “used false and fictitious instruments to obtain property from unsuspecting victims.” And all you can do is gush like a schoolgirl cause you met him? Please.
did you? Yeah Please
btw you have no idea what you are talking about, and yet so quick to convict him? I suspect if you were in the same situation, you would be just as calous? I doubt it. You unable to show compassion and understanding.Too Bad, Sooo Sad.
@ MoiLee – People on Molokai know Kaheke well. You are right about his demeanor and diving abilities. You know, most of the people here don’t remember him but I can still picture him fighting with his hula skirt. If Hillary can get away with all the lying that she’s done, how can people defend her and then jump on Alexio like that? Nobody’s perfect, but some get pardoned while others don’t.
I remember when he was the toast of the town,……..now look at him,……..sad, very sad.
Bummer. Dennis is a good guy and did a bad thing. He did NOT hurt anyone but himself.
What about “obtaining property from unsuspecting victims”? Sounds like he hurt others besides himself.
Alexis will be 110 years old when he gets out..if he is still alive that is.
