A Kapaa man was charged for allegedly shooting his roommate at their home on Kauai.
Jeffrey Scot Simpson, 57, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering and carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Kauai District Judge Jonathan Chun Thursday. Simpson is being held in lieu of $53,000 cash bail, and is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Oct. 26 at Fifth Circuit Court.
The shooting occurred Sunday at a home on Kamalu Road. Officers found a 52-year-old man lying on the floor in his bedroom with gunshot wounds to his face and chest.
He was transported to Wilcox Hospital and flown to Queen’s Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
Police said Simpson lives at the home with the victim and several other roommates.
