Man seriously injured in fire at downtown apartment complex

A 72-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition early this morning after firefighters responded to a fire in an apartment complex downtown.

Paramedics were called to the Queen Emma Gardens complex around 3 a.m. and treated the man for apparent for apparent smoke inhalation before transporting him to the hospital in serious condition, according to Emergency Medical Services.

The call for the 2-alarm fire at the Prince Tower on the 7th floor came in at 2:25 a.m., according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. David Jenkins. Firefighter arrived on scene at 2:30 a.m. and had the blaze under control 20 minutes later, jenkins said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
