STAR-ADVERTISER / NOV. 2015

Skaters enjoy the ice at the Ward Winter Village Ice Rink in Honolulu on Sunday, November 29, 2015.

Outdoor ice skating in Hawaii might seem like an oxymoron, but the Howard Hughes Corporation will prove it’s possible once again when the Ward Village Ice Rink returns to the 60-acre master planned community’s public courtyard outside the former IBM building in Kakaako.

This is the second year the attraction, built and operated by Ice Rink Events, will be open at Ward Village. In 2015, Olympic medalist ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi was in Honolulu to promote the rink and raise funds for her nonprofit, the Always Dream Foundation.

“Last year, we received an amazing response to our ice rink,” Ward Village vice president of community development Todd Apo said in a statement. “(We) are thrilled to once again offer this festive winter experience.”

The Ward Village Ice Rink will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays from Nov. 25 through Jan. 16.

Skate sessions will cost $16 per person for up to 90 minutes on the ice; skate rentals are included in the price. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase. Complimentary valet parking will be available at the Ward Industrial Center behind Marukai; premium valet will be available on the Ward Entertainment Center’s second floor on Fridays from 4 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition, Ward Village will offer the following holiday events and activities in November and December:

>> Nov. 19 through Dec. 24: Santa’s Beach House

Families and friends are invited to take their annual holiday photos with Santa at his Beach House. Photos will be provided by Cherry Hill (except Nov. 24), a national leader specializing in seasonal event photography. Santa’s holiday residence will be located at Ward Entertainment Center, Box Office level. Packages start at $23. Pet Night every Tuesday, 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

>> Nov. 19 through Dec. 16: Senior Giving Trees

Customers are invited to give back this season and select an ornament “wish” from the Catholic Charities Giving Trees to give a gift requested by a disadvantaged senior at Santa’s Beach House, Ward Entertainment Center, Box Office level.

>> Dec. 1 through Dec. 31: IBM Building Holiday Light Show

Enjoy a holiday-themed light show on the iconic façade of the IBM Building, home to the Ward Village Information Center and Sales Gallery, throughout the holiday season.

>> Dec. 4 through Dec. 30: Honolulu City Lights Trolley Tours

Experience Honolulu as you’ve never seen before with a thrilling ride through the city’s most anticipated light show. Customers are able to purchase tickets online to view the Honolulu City Lights (except Dec. 24 & 25) via the Waikiki Trolley at wardvillage.com/trolley (link will work properly once tickets are on sale). Tickets are $7.75 per person; children under three are free. Proceeds benefit the Hawaii Food Bank.
