Windy weather to stick around through Thanksgiving

This morning’s rains on Oahu and Kauai should ease by this afternoon, but windy weather will stick around, along with some scattered showers through Thanksgiving.

An old weather front moving south and strong tradewinds blowing windward and mauka showers to leeward areas are responsible for the heaver-than-usual rains.

“Showers should be on the decrease this morning, with noticeably less shower activity expected by this afternoon. Even in areas where the shower coverage decreases, considerable cloudiness is expected to remain in place,” forecasters said this morning.

The weak front could linger over the Big Island and Maui however, keeping increased windward and mauka showers over the eastern end of the state.

The break in the rains this afternoon for Oahu may only be temporary.

“The band of enhanced moisture over the eastern end of the state will lift back northward into Oahu and Kauai tonight, then linger over the entire island chain through Monday night,” forecasters said.

Windy conditions and scattered showers will continue through the week.

Expect east winds of 10 to 25 mph today, gusting to 35 mph on Monday.

The forecast for Thanksgiving calls for mostly cloudy skies and windy conditions, with east winds of 15 to 30 mph. Expect windward and mauka showers and scattered showers in leeward areas. Highs should be between 80 and 85 degrees with lows in the lower 70s.
