A water main break forced five businesses to close in Waianae today.

The rupture involving a 12-inch water main occurred at about 6:45 a.m. at 86-090 Farrington Highway fronting Waianae Mall.

A westbound lane has been closed as crew members cleared debris and prepare to conduct repairs, said Kalei Schoenstein, spokeswoman of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply. A water wagon was sent to the area to assist business that remained open.

Leeward Community College’s Waianae Education Center canceled classes today due to the break.
