Flood advisory in effect for windward Big Isle

This composite radar image showed moisture over the windward coast of Hawaii island this morning.

A flood advisory is in effect for windward Hawaii island until 11:15 a.m. today.

The advisory includes, but is not limited to, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honomu, Keaau, Pahoa, Laupahoehoe, Pepeekeo, Glenwood, Hawaiian Acres, Mountain View and Volcano. Hawaii County Civil Defense reported heavy ponding on some roads in Hilo, including Kukila and Pauahi streets.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the advisory around 6:30 a.m. today. Radar indicated heavy rain near Hilo and over Puna this morning, where rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Residents are advised to avoid streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
