Four family pets died Sunday in a fire on Old Government Road in Waianae.

Fire investigators continue to search for the cause of a fire along Old Government Road in Waianae that killed four family pets on Sunday and caused $365,000 to the structure and contents.

Six people were home when they smelled the odor of smoke before smoke alarms went off, said Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins.

None of the human occupants were injured but four family pets died. Jenkins did not immediately know what kind of animals were killed.

Firefighters were dispatched to the two-story, single-family home at 2:22 p.m., arrived five minutes later and had the fire under control at 2:47 p.m., Jenkins said. It was extinguished at 4:25 p.m.

The fire caused approximately $315,000 in damage to the structure and $50,000 to the contents, Jenkins said.

The American Red Cross of Hawaii said that volunteers will help the residents with immediate needs for food, shelter or clothing.

The organization said caseworkers will follow up in the coming weeks to provide assistance as needed.

  • The first thing I would do, before putting clothes on, is getting my beloved pet(S). I hope the situation was the reason why they were left behind. Pet heaven now.
