On the menu at the new Senia: Hot-smoked King Salmon.

Senia, long-planned and recently opened by chefs Chris Kajioka and Anthony Rush, and Vino, run by master sommelier Chuck Furuya, have been nominated for 2017 James Beard Awards in separate categories.

Senia, at 75 N. King Street, was nominated in the Best New Restaurant category, while Vino, at 500 Ala Moana in Waterfront Plaza, was nominated in the Outstanding Wine Program category.

Both restaurants are among the semifinalists announced today by the New York-based James Beard Foundation. No Hawaii chefs were named semifinalists in the regional Best Chef or Rising Star Chef of the Year categories this year.

The semifinalists were selected from among some 24,000 entries. The foundation will announce the final nominees on March 15.

Chuck Furuya is deserving. The man not only knows his wines but he can relate to his customers, with his wines and food, in a totally unpretentious way. Yes, you have to listen to some really bad jokes but it’s worth it.

    Definitely not pizza, allie.

A well-deserved nod to Iolani grad Chris Kajioka and his Senia partner, Anthony Rush. Having dined once at Vintage Cave when Kajioka was at the helm (couldn’t afford to go again before he left), I’m really excited for our upcoming reservations at Senia.
