Firefighters battle brush fire above Palolo

Firefighters are battling a brush fire at Waahila Ridge today.

The fire started at about 4:30 a.m. on a steep slope on the Palolo side of the ridge, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.

About a dozen firefighters are battling the slow-moving fire that has scorched about an acre of brush. Jenkins said the fire department’s Air 1 helicopter is conducting water drops.

Sixteen personnel of the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife are assisting firefighters.
