Manhunt underway for suspect in Kalihi shooting

Emergency Medical Services transported a 31-year-old woman to a hospital after her ex-boyfriend shot at her in Kalihi Valley.

The shooting occurred at about 12:30 a.m. today. Lt. Thomas Smith of the Honolulu Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division said the woman was driving her vehicle on Kalihi Street when at some point her ex-boyfriend pulled up next to her in a brown Ford Explorer and allegedly shot at her multiple times.

One bullet struck her left shoulder and about two to three bullets struck the driver’s side door.

Smith said she drove off and flagged down a police officer who had responded to a separate incident at the intersection of Kalihi and Laumaile streets.

Paramedics arrived and transported her to a trauma hospital in serious condition.

An all-points bulletin was issued for the suspect. Smith said police spotted the Ford Explorer on Beretania Street in downtown Honolulu. Police arrested the driver, who was not the suspect, for an unrelated traffic offense.

The suspect described to be in his mid-20s remains at large.

Smith said police recovered the Ford Explorer and the victim’s vehicle for evidence.
