Police request autopsy on man found floating in Hilo Bay

Hawaii County police have requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of a man found floating unresponsive in Hilo Bay Monday.

Firefighters responded to a report of a man observed floating in the bay at about 6:35 p.m. The police department said firefighters recovered the body about a quarter-mile off of Wainaku.

His name has yet to be released. Police said the man was in his 50s to 60s, between 5-foot-9 and six-feet tall with dark brown or black hair. He also had a beard and mustache.
