A 40-year-old man was in serious condition Tuesday after he came in contact with a power line while picking lychee in Wahiawa.
An Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman said paramedics took the man in serious condition to a hospital with possible electrical injuries.
At about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, two dozen firefighters responded to 1314 Glen Ave. and found the man 25 feet up in a tree, Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins said. The victim had been calling for help after coming into contact with the energized power line and someone called firefighters, Jenkins said.
Hawaiian Electric Co. shut off power in the area and sent a technician to confirm the power lines were de-energized, he said.
Firefighters advised the man to stay in place until the technician checked the lines, but the man climbed down on his own, Jenkins said.
Once clear of the electrical hazard, firefighters assessed the man and transferred him to paramedics. Jenkins said a fruit-picking pole was found on the ground nearby.
