Hilo’s B.J. Penn wilted in the third round and lost a majority decision to Dennis Siver in a featherweight mixed martial arts bout that opened the main card of UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City tonight.

The 38-year-old Penn lost his fifth consecutive fight to drop to 16-12-2 overall and 12-11-2 in the UFC. The former two-division champion remains winless in seven years since a November 2010 TKO of Matt Hughes.

All three judges scored the second round 10-9 in favor of Penn, who dropped Siver with a right uppercut. Penn was up 20-18 on one scorecard and tied 19-19 on the other two entering the final round, but seemed to completely run out of energy.

Siver, 39, connected on 51 of his 117 total strikes attempted in the final five minutes while Penn managed to throw only 27 strikes and land 14.

Two of the three judges scored the last round 10-8 in favor of Siver (23-11, 12-8-1), giving him the win by a final count of 29-28, 29-27 and 28-28 for the majority decision.
