Man arrested after pricey backpack stolen from Ala Moana store

Police arrested a 19-year-old man after he allegedly stole a backpack valued at more than $2,000 from Ala Moana Center.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police said the suspect stole a $2,500 backpack from a retail store. The suspect and a loss prevention agent got into a scuffle as the agent took him into custody until police arrived.

Police said the loss prevention agent sustained minor injuries and declined treatment.

Police arrested the 19-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree theft, third-degree assault and an outstanding warrant. He was released pending further investigation.
