A 46-year-old Kihei man died in a crash in Paia over the weekend.

He was identified as Christopher Andricopoulos.

Shortly after 11:45 a.m. Sunday, police said Andricopoulos was traveling south on Hana Highway on a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle when he suddenly braked behind 2001 Nissan pickup truck stopped in traffic near Lae Place.

Andricopoulos was thrown from his motorcycle and struck the rear of the truck. Police said he died while being transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said the truck driver was not injured.

This is the fourth traffic-related fatality in Maui County compared to eight at the same time last year.
