The Max Casino at the Westin is closing. Finally. A closing announcement was first made a year ago, but the leased-out casino just south of the Strip whose name is a nod to its predecessor, the Maxim, continued to operate. The casino completely closed Friday, leaving the Westin without gambling. The main bar is also scheduled to close for a remodel, apparently as part of a complete redesign of the property.

Circus 1903: A new show called “Circus 1903 — The Golden Age of Circus” will take residence this month at Paris. The show mimics a real circus, featuring a ringmaster, jugglers, aerialists and giant elephant puppets. It opens July 25 with tickets starting at $49 base.

Moving Tacos: The north-Strip location of Tacos El Gordo is planning a move to a vacant tattoo parlor later this year. The new location is within walking distance of the current shop, which has become a go-to place for late-night Strip partyers. An exact date for the move has not been announced.

Gold standard: Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage has received the highest possible certification for animal care by the animal welfare group American Humane. It’s one of only 14 facilities (zoos and aquariums) in the world to achieve the certification. American Humane’s CEO called the habitat “the gold standard for animal welfare.”

Harrah’s hit: Two guests from Phoenix cashed big on a penny slot machine at Harrah’s. Apparently playing together, the two will split $944,337.37 hit on a Willy Wonka: World of Wonka machine.

Question: Will the Strip have a fireworks show for July Fourth?

Answer: Because July Fourth falls on Tuesday, most of the fireworks are scheduled for today. However, Station Casinos will present a big fireworks display Tuesday. The “We Love Locals’ July 4th Fireworks Blast” will be made up of two nine-minute shows emanating from Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock Resort (east and west of the Strip) beginning at 9 p.m.
