Waianae man dies after rescue from Ko Olina lagoon

A 54-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in an apparent drowning at Ko Olina, according to police.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Joseph J. Flores Jr. of Waianae. An autopsy is expected to be performed today to determine the exact cause of death.

At about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Emergency Medical Services said Flores experienced an undisclosed medical condition when he was in shallow water at Lagoon 4.

Paramedics arrived and performed life-saving measures on him before transporting Flores to a hospital in critical condition.

Police said he died Monday.
