The Red Bull Party Wave features teams who push the limits of creativity with floating designs tested in the waters off Waikiki along with on-shore skits.

Duke’s OceanFest and Red Bull promise another entertaining finish to the weeklong ocean sports festival honoring Duke Kahanamoku when the Red Bull Party Wave competition returns to Waikiki Aug. 27.

Now in its fourth year, the Red Bull Party Wave challenges teams to build a vessel and paddle out off Kuhio Beach to catch waves. In addition, teams must dress in theme and perform a skit on the beach beforehand.

According to the organizers, teams must have three to five members. Other rules:

>> Team members must be at least 17 years old and able to paddle out and safely participate in operating the vessel.

>> Vessels must have a creative theme and be man-made within the designated building period.

>> Vessel must be propelled by human power alone. Paddles are allowed, but no motors or sails.

>> Teams will be judged on vessel creativity, team showmanship/costumes and wave performance.

>> All materials used to build each vessel must be environmentally friendly and float in the ocean; any loose or unsecured materials may be subject to removal before the competition.

Up to 30 teams will be selected from applications submitted online.
