Sage Erickson and Kanoa Igarashi won their respective divisions at the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing on Sunday in 2- to 4-foot surf at the Huntington Beach Pier in California. This was stop six of 10 on the World Surf League Championship Tour.
In the women’s final, Erickson claimed her first Championship Tour victory by defeating Hawaii’s Tatiana Weston-Webb by a score of 11.84 to 9.80 in the final. It marks the second runner-up result for Weston-Webb for the season.
Earlier in the day, Weston-Webb defeated fellow Hawaii surfer Coco Ho in the semifinal.
In the men’s final, it was 19-year-old and Huntington Beach native Igarashi scoring a 17.23, which included a 9.63 score (the highest single-scoring wave of the men’s event), to beat Tomas Hermes of Brazil.
