Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, University of Hawaii women’s volleyball coach, talks on the phone at her office with her daughter, Jream Santos, last week.

Robyn Ah Mow-Santos oversaw her first practice as Hawaii women’s volleyball coach today, but as the Big West coaches see it, the rookie head coach should bring more of what Dave Shoji did in more than four decades in charge.

In the preseason poll released today, BWC coaches picked the Rainbow Wahine to finish first in the conference for the third year in a row.

Hawaii received six of nine first-place votes. Cal Poly (2) and Long Beach State (1) received the others. The Rainbow Wahine beat out Poly by seven points for the top spot.

UH lost two all-conference selections in the offseason — player of the year Nikki Taylor and Annie Mitchem, both of whom have used up their eligibility. But three Big West first-teamers return for the Wahine — libero Savanah Kahakai, middle blocker Emily Maglio and setter Norene Iosia.
