An aquarium on loan from Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium draws a crowd in front of JR Yurakucho Station in Tokyo.
TOKYO >> A huge aquarium showcasing colorful fish from Okinawa Prefecture has been set up in front of JR Yurakucho Station in Tokyo, entertaining passersby.
The roughly 5-meter-wide tank is intended to reproduce the underwater scenery of the sea around the southern prefecture. It contains 1,000 fish of about 25 species from Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, including a 1.2-meter-long Humphead wrasse, also known as the Napoleon fish. Until last year, this seasonal event was held at the Sony Building in the Ginza district, but it moved to a new location as the building is currently closed ahead of its planned demolition.
The event runs through Sunday. Staff members of the Okinawa aquarium give three talks a day to explain the fish in the tank.
