Police, council members, state Health and Transportation officials and Mayor Kirk Caldwell are scheduled to sign-wave for pedestrian safety along Keeaumoku Street between Rycroft and Makaloa streets from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m today.

Caldwell has proclaimed August as “Pedestrian Safety Month” in the city and plans to remind drivers today to be alert for pedestrians crossing the street. Pedestrians are scheduled to be given flashing lights they can wear in the dark to be more visible to drivers, according to city officials.

Caldwell is expected to be joined by Councilmembers Joey Manahan and Kymberly Marcos Pine and representatives from AARP, the city’s Department of Transportation Services, Honolulu Police Department and state departments of Transportation and Health.
