The Rainbow Wahine soccer team had a 2-1 win over Utah Valley in overtime in the OHANA Hotels Outrigger Shootout tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Sarah Lau scored on a pass from Kiri Dale to give the Hawaii soccer team a 2-1 win over Utah Valley in overtime in the OHANA Hotels Outrigger Shootout tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

It was the first season-opening win for UH since 2007.

UVU struck first with a 21st-minute penalty kick by Breanna DeWaal after UH was whistled for a hand ball in the box during a scrum.

UH answered in the 35th when freshman Izzy Deutsch lofted a perfect cross far post to Raisa Strom-Okimoto, who dove to head the ball in on the run.

Lau’s goal on Dale’s quick cross into the box was an instant winner with 1:20 left in the 10-minute overtime period.

The Wahine continue the tournament at 5 p.m. Sunday against Fairfield (1-0).
