Big Island police look for pickup driver involved in fatal hit-and-run

A 40-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon when a pickup truck struck him in Pahoa, Hawaii County authorities said.

Hawaii County police were looking for the driver of a white pickup truck that fled the scene of the collision, and located the truck sometime before 6:28 p.m.

A police department spokesman could not confirm whether the driver was found or not.

Hawaii County Fire Department got the call at 2:51 p.m., and the first unit arrived at 2:55 p.m. and found the man lying dead on the roadway.

The accident occurred on Highway 130 at the intersection with Highway 132.

Police closed a Hilo-bound lane of Highway 130 at the intersection with Highway 132, and rerouted traffic through Pahoa Village Road.
