Truck driver dies after hitting tree in Pearl City

A 70-year-old motorist has died today after he crashed into a tree in Pearl City.

His name has yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.

Just before 10:25 a.m., police and Emergency Medical Services said a vehicle operated by the Pearl City man was traveling southbound on Kaahumanu Street near Waiau District Park when for unknown reasons, he drifted to the right of the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Paramedics transported him in critical condition to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Speed or alcohol were not factors.

This is the 27th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 37 at the same time last year.
