A green sea turtle was released off Maui on Friday.

Six Hawaiian green sea turtles raised at Maui Ocean Center were successfully released into the ocean off the coast of the Valley Isle following a private ceremony on Friday.

The six honu — Maluhia, Mohalu, Kao Lele, Lipaki, Koa and Kunoa — were hatched at Sea Life Park on July 4, 2015 and raised at Maui Ocean Center through the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle Educational Loan Program.

They are outfitted with transponder tags that allow them to be identified as turtles released by the center. Their shells are marked with “MOC” and the numbers 1 to 6. The public is asked to keep an eye out for the turtles and report sightings, including the day, time and location by calling (808) 270-7075, info@mauioceancenter.com or by posting to Maui Ocean Center’s social media channels.
