HUNTSVILLE, Ala. >> A former Alabama school teacher has pleaded guilty in the 2015 shooting of his daughter’s naked boyfriend.

The shooting happened after Fitzgerald McQueen found the boy, who was then 17, hiding, naked, in the 13-year-old girl’s closet.

The 52-year-old McQueen reached a misdemeanor plea deal today with Madison County prosecutors that keeps him out of prison.

The Huntsville Times reports McQueen had been charged with a felony in the nonfatal shooting.

McQueen is a former fifth-grade teacher at Heritage Elementary school in Madison. He now works at the school system’s central office.

Defense attorney Bruce Gardner said that because McQueen pleaded to the misdemeanor, he will be able to keep his job and teaching license.
