The state issued a water advisory for Anahola Bay on Kauai this morning for high levels of bacteria during routine beach monitoring.

The Department of Health Clean Water Branch found levels of 148 per 100 milliliters of enterococci at the bay, higher than the threshold level of 130 enterococci per 100 milliliters.

Swimming at beaches with pollution in the water may make you ill, according to the department. Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are the most susceptible to illnesses or infections after coming into contact with polluted water, usually while swimming, officials said.
