Hawaii County police arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a kidnapping in Hilo.

Police issued a bulletin for David John Erlenbach Wednesday who was wanted for questioning in the case.

At about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said a 19-year-old woman reported a man identified as Erlenbach held her against her will in his vehicle.

The victim and Erlenbach are known to one another.

After the victim tried several times to flee from the suspect while the vehicle was on Kinoole Street near the intersection of Lanikaula Street, police said the woman managed to exit the vehicle and yelled for help.

Nearby residents assisted her and called police as Erlenbach fled.

Police arrested him Wednesday afternoon at a Hilo residence.

The investigation is ongoing.
