Police arrested a 45-year-old work furlough inmate in Kalihi after he failed to return to Oahu Community Correctional Center Monday.

Garry Shinyama, also known as Gary Shinyama, was arrested at 11 p.m. Thursday in the area of Ahuula Street and Puuhale Road, a few blocks away from the correctional facility.

The Department of Public Safety said he left Module 20 Monday morning to go to work but failed to return that afternoon.

Shinyama was serving a sentence for drug paraphernalia, promotion of a dangerous drug and abuse of a household member. He was slated to be released from OCCC after the Hawaii Paroling Authority tentatively approved his parole. His release date had yet to be set.

Police arrested Shinyama Thursday on suspicion of second-degree escape.
