Officials alter state plans to reflect larger nuke tested by N. Korea

    A public forum regarding the potential nuclear threat to Hawaii posed by North Korea was held Friday at the state Capitol. Answering questions from the public were Hawaii Emergency Management Agency administrator Vern Miyagi, right; Toby Claremont, Hawaii executive officer for the agency; Maj. Gen. Joe Logan, state adjutant general and agency director; Lt. Col. Al Sato, Hawaii National Guard’s 93rd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team commander; and Capt. Sean Cripps, the unit’s nuclear officer.

Hawaii has ratcheted up its planning for a possible — but still very unlikely — North Korean nuclear attack on the isles to 100 kiloton yield from 15 kiloton as the threat from the rogue nation seems to escalate by the week. Read more
