Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged a home in Aiea Sunday night.

At about 11:10 p.m., 10 companies staffed with 36 firefighters responded to the fire at a single-story home at 99-621 Iwaiwa St.

When firefighters arrived, they observed smoke and flames emerging from the front of the residence. Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins said one resident who was home at the time managed to escape.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 12:35 a.m. and extinguished it by 12:55 a.m.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.

Emergency Medical Services evaluated the resident at the scene and they refused to be transported to a hospital.
