The National Weather Service has canceled a flash flood warning for the island of Maui.

The warning was canceled more than hour before its scheduled expiration at 6:45 p.m.

Heavy rainfall had been hanging over the West Maui Mountains and over Haleakala Highway earlier in the afternoon.

Forecasters say a weather system over the islands will bring gusty trade winds and possible heavy showers to the islands into the weekend.
