Rainbow Wahine beat Cal State Northridge in 5

Junior hitter McKenna Granato put down 24 kills and Hawaii had 16 aces in pulling out a 25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 22-25, 15-8 win over Cal State Northridge in a Big West volleyball match at Northridge, Calif.

Senior middle Emily Maglio added 13 kills with just two hitting errors and was in on eight of the 11 blocks for the Rainbow Wahine (13-6, 7-1 ). It was the third consecutive Saturday that Hawaii played in a five-setter, going 2-1 after tonight’s win. UH is 3-4 this season when it goes to five.

The Wahine overcame a season-high 17 service errors after 2 hours and 52 minutes. They had 16 in Friday’s 3-1 victory at Long Beach State.

Sophomore setter Norene Iosia finished with her 11th double-double (44 assists-10 digs) of the season and added a match-high five aces. Senior libero Savanah Kahakai had 10 of the Wahine’s 50 digs, her ninth consecutive match in double digits.

Aeryn Owens led the Matadors (10-9, 4-3) with 24 kills. Senior libero Katie Sato finished with 14 digs.

Hawaii opens the second round of conference play when hosting Cal State Fullerton on Friday and UC Riverside on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
