HFD extinguishes 2-alarm building fire in Kalihi

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a two-alarm building fire in Kalihi this morning.

The first of nine fire companies arrived on scene at 2137 Kaumualii Street at 5:36 a.m. and found a two-story apartment building with one unit completely involved in fire.

Crews contained the fire to the unit and brought it under control at 5:42 a.m. The fire was completely extinguished by 5:58 a.m.

All second-alarm companies were canceled en route.

A family of four was home at the time of the fire, but were alerted to the presence of smoke and were able to escape uninjured, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
